Souled on Science Fiction – Richard Errington in the Bookhabit Unpublished Competition

Richard Errington talks with Clare Tanner on The Bookhabit Show about his love of Science Fiction that has seen him writing Science Fiction stories since he was 10 years old.
Souled is Richard’s first completed book and it has successfully made it through to Round 2 of the Bookhabit Unpublished Competition. The story of a ragtag band of children on the run crosses over in to the Fantasy genre – another favorite with Richard.
Now 22, a Leeds University Creative Writing degree graduate, Richard says the degree helped him put more structure in the process of his writing. He is now disciplined about how much and when he writes, and this discipline can mean a first draft in less than a month. Of course, the editing process can take up to a further 6 months, but this focus helps him achieve both his writing and life goals. Richard shares some learnings for other young writers, in terms of his structure and his approach, and encourages writers to “keep writingâ€.
Now actively seeking a publishing contract, Richard sees the exposure from a competition like the Bookhabit Unpublished Competition as “worth it’s weight in goldâ€. The exposure he is hoping to gain from his entry is already beginning, with a first place in Week 3 of Round 1. The competition is open for submissions until May 11, and you can hear some tips from Richard on successfully making it through to the next round.
