Christopher Fyles & “The Boy Who Ate Himself” on The Bookhabit Show
![]() |
The churning stomach, thoughts and feelings of a teenage boy are explored in Christopher Fyle’s new novel on www.Bookhabit.com. The Bookhabit Show talks to Christopher and learns more about this story of morality, right and wrong, and the role of religion, and the older woman.
Christopher, of course didn’t, eat himself, although he said some of the scenes were inspired by his own experiences as a teenage boy. For Richard, the central character, everything is either Right or Wrong. He has the age-old teenage boy drama – consumed by the teenage sexual angst besetting his every thought – he tries to reconcile his testosterone with his strict religious upbringing and code of right and wrong. One reader said “[The] First chapter is a deceptively gentle introduction to what turns out to be a darkly believable descent into the brooding mind of Richard Brott. As such, it does a good job of initiating character and situation without giving much away. At first, Richard seems to be another lonely English schoolboy, and it only gradually becomes apparent just how isolated and disturbed he is. Violence fascinates and appals him, and as he slowly disintegrates along with his worldview, violence starts to feel inevitable. Manages to be tense and occasionally visceral without ever leaving the viewpoint of a geeky, immature fourteen-year-old. Good stuff.â€
